Those that can...

Letter in Argus 1st August 2012

I IMAGINE most parents assume the individuals responsible for educating their children are qualified and trained to do so.
Until now parents have been safe in making this assumption.
However, last Friday the Department for Education announced that academy schools are free to recruit unqualified teachers.
If Worthing High School’s academy bid is successful, parents and prospective parents face the possibility of their children being taught by individuals who are unqualified.
Are parents in Worthing comfortable with this?

Latest news

Worthing High School governors have chosen to press ahead with their academy conversion application, despite countless objections from parents, prospective parents and the wider community. As stakeholders we feel frustrated that the school has failed to listen to our concerns and objections. Over the last months, WHAAG has repeatedly written to the Governors and our local MPs, demonstrated, submitted two petitions each with over 500 signatures, gained excellent local media coverage and reached out to the Worthing community. Teachers at the school have also tried and failed to discuss their concerns with the governors. Having no other option, NUT/NASUWT unions have carried out TWO separate days of strike action which we supported.

On 31st August 2012, the Department for Education (DfE) advised that the school should carry out "further consultation" with stakeholders. The governors have apparently ignored this request.

Please get in touch to find out how you can get involved with the campaign.

You can write to the school and also to Worthing Herald, letters@worthingherald.co.uk to express your concerns and your support for our teachers.
