The Academy, Selsey rated inadequate by Ofsted

Sad news for The Academy, Selsey in West Sussex. 'Inadequate' Ofsted rating March 2013. It opened on 1 September 2011 as a sponsor-led academy, as a part of The Kemnal Academies Trust. This is yet more evidence that academy status does NOT improve standards or benefit our children.

Worthing united against academies!

What an inspring day for all of us who care about the education of our children in Worthing!  Great turn out at the picket and a tremendous level of support at the rally. Teachers, parents, the local community and unions all united in our opposition to the privatisation and fragmentation of our education system.

So many messages of support from across the UK for the teachers striking at WHS - from public sector workers, unhappy teachers working in academies and members of the general public. Lots and lots of excellent media coverage too!

Public meeting 26th June

Public meeting this Tuesday, 26th June, 7.30 pm, at Manor Sports Ground, Cricket Club, Broadwater. Entrance by car from Georgia Avenue - there's a car park next to the cricket club.

Please spread the word. Looking forward seeing lots of you there to update you on the campaign and share ideas for our next steps...

Campaign Update

After a productive and well attended meeting last night the campaign is invigorated and moving forward.

Next steps are to continue collecting petition signatures and also to hand out leaflets setting out the objections to parents and prospective parents.  We will be in Worthing Town Centre on Saturday enjoying the Children's Parade and talking to parents.

Feel free to come and help or come and have a chat if you still have questions about the campaign.  We will be in Steyne Gardens at the end of the Parade.

Governors Protest Meeting

A massive thank you to everyone who turned out for the protest outside the school yesterday. We were up to 45 strong, including WHS parents, staff and students, prospective parents, councillors and the wider community. We had fun, made lots of noise and ensured that our message was conveyed loud and clear, courtesy of a megaphone and lots of car hooting!

Check out page 3 of The Argus today, with a positive piece and picture that captures the spirit of our campaign and purple theme.

A piece of purple ribbon will be tied to the railings on the public footpath, outside the main entrance of the school everyday - a symbolic and colourful reminder that our campaign continues, despite the vote by Governors yesterday to go ahead with their academy proposal application. See Alison Beer's email that went out to parents at the school below.

Representatives of our group and union reps will be in Worthing centre on Saturday, meeting at the bandstand area (between Laura Ashley and Monsoon) at 10 am. They will be talking to the public, raising awareness and promoting our campaign. Please join them if you can, even if it's just for half an hour.

Other news: a Worthing High Academy Action Group blog / website is currently under construction. We will unveil this to you asap. And our next public meeting will be on Tuesday 12th June, at 7.30 pm at the Cricket Club on Manor Ground rec., off Broadwater Road, Worthing.

We will be in touch again soon.

Thanks for your continue support and input.
